As we continue our exploration of the lower body, it is interesting to look at classic techniques to tie the legs by themselves. These are great to explore with self-tying, or to use as an attachment point to bind other body parts and create a variety of body positions.
The goal of this week is to try a variety of lower body ties and explore them to create unique sessions.
Day 134: Rope Skirt – Create a structure to bind the tights together. You can work from waist to the knees or the other way around. This is great for positions that keep the knees together but the ankles can be pulled apart in different directions.
Day 135: Mermaid Tie – Try binding the legs together on the entire length. Explore with different positions such as keeping the legs parallel or crossing them. Be mindful of the maleola at the ankle, you should check that the two bones are not aligned to prevent discomfort in the tie. The order of tying will create different results, depending if you start at the ankles, waist or somewhere in the middle.
Day 136: Calf Binder – Create a structure from the knees to ankles, binding the calves together. You can try different leg positions such as keeping the legs parallel or crossing the calves.
Day 137: Stockings – Wrap the legs without attaching them to anything. This can be decorative or used as a structure to tie other parts of the body. Take note that when wrapping the leg straight, folding it afterward may cause compression on the limb.
Day 138: Crossing Ankle Tie – Tie the legs sitting in a crossed leg position. This classic position is often referred to as Agura Shibari 胡座縛り(sitting crossed-legged tie). You can make a minimal tie by binding the ankles, or expand to include the waist, thighs, calves and/or feet in the tie to create a restrictive tie.
Day 139: Butterfly Pose – Alt. bound angle pose, throne pose, cobbler’s pose, or ashiura awase shibari 足裏合わせ縛り (tie with the soles together) – In a sitting position, place the soles of the feet together and tie them in place. Explore how you can expand this tie to create a structure on the leg that will hold the position in place.
Day 140: More Crossed-Legs Ties – Continue the exploration with variations of positions sitting crossed-legged such as the lotus pose with both feet on top of the thighs and the shoelace pose that crosses the knees on top of each other.
We compiled a Youtube playlist with various videos on this topic, let us know if you find others we should add to this list. Note that video references may display risky or unstable techniques, viewer discernment is advised.
